U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio insists that the recent interactions between Americans and Russians were not negotiations, but simply an effort to verify if Russia is truly inclined to conclude the war. Rubio stated that the discussions did not entail negotiations where maps would be examined or new boundaries established.

“We were very clear with the Russians. There were no negotiations. We did not sit over a map and start drawing lines. We said that if you are interested — we cannot do nothing with you, we cannot collaborate with you economically, we cannot cooperate with you on a host of other issues,” the Secretary of State noted.

Rubio is confident that Russia is interested in cooperation; however, this is impossible while the war continues. He added that the message was clear: for closer cooperation with the U.S. on various geopolitical and economic issues, the war must be brought to an end.
“If you want closer cooperation with the United States on a number of other issues around the world, both geopolitical and economic, this war needs to be ended,” Marco Rubio concluded.
