This statement was made during an interview for CBS Mornings, as reported by Glavpost.
The official emphasized that Washington's primary goal is not just to end the current conflict, but to prevent its resurgence in the future.
“We do not want the conflict to end only to start again in a few years. Our aim is to ensure long-term stability,” Rubio stressed.
He also expressed concern over the scale of destruction caused by the war, adding that Ukraine bears the brunt of the consequences.
“This conflict, initiated by Russia, has turned into a bloody and protracted war. It has inflicted enormous losses on both Russia and Ukraine, but it is the Ukrainians who are paying the highest price — cities have been destroyed, energy infrastructure has been devastated, and millions have been displaced from their homes,” he stated.
Rubio highlighted the importance of ending the war for the sake of those who have suffered as a result. He also reaffirmed the United States' commitment to work towards this goal.
“We cannot remain indifferent to human losses. For the sake of all those affected, this conflict must be resolved,” the Secretary of State declared.
The American administration believes that a stable peace can only be achieved through diplomatic efforts, international cooperation, and security guarantees for both sides. The question of how to attain peace remains at the forefront of the global agenda, but Rubio's words indicate the U.S. is ready to play an active role in this process.
