French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot stated the following:
“Soon, French 'Mirages' will fly over Ukraine. At the end of the quarter, as President Emmanuel Macron announced, these aircraft will be handed over.”
Barrot noted that the completion of the transfer is anticipated to occur within the timeframe set by the French leadership.
The process of supplying Mirage 2000-5s to Ukraine was initially planned for June 2024, when Macron expressed the intention to provide upgraded fighter jets. Reports indicated that enhanced versions of these planes would be prepared for Kyiv, improving their combat capabilities.
In October 2024, representatives of the French Foreign Ministry added that the first aircraft could be delivered as early as the beginning of 2025. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky emphasized that France has expedited the delivery of these crucial aircraft for Ukraine's defense, referring to them as "birds" in the context of strengthening air power.
