A new record has been set in Germany: two fishermen caught a giant catfish measuring 281 cm in length and weighing 96 kg. This is reported by the State Agency for Melioration and Fisheries of Ukraine, according to UNN.

Details

Last month, two German fishermen, while engaged in a routine pike fishing trip at one of Bavaria's lakes, established a new record for Germany by catching a giant catfish.

It is noted that the fishermen had to lift the catfish with a loader to accurately determine its weight. It was found that the catfish weighs 96 kg.

The agency adds that this "giant specimen" is not only a record length in Germany but also one of the largest in Europe. Only a few fish of this size have been caught on the European continent, primarily in the Italian Po River.

Remarkably

The European catfish is not only the largest freshwater fish in Ukraine and Europe but also one of the largest freshwater fish on the planet, with lengths reaching up to 5 meters and weights exceeding 100 kg. This is why it is highly sought after by anglers from around the world, the agency reports.
