The U.S. Secretary of Defense to Meet with Zelensky and Umerov
On the morning of Monday, October 21, Lloyd Austin, the head of the Pentagon, arrived in Kyiv on an unannounced visit.
“I have returned to Ukraine for the fourth time as Secretary of Defense, demonstrating that the United States, along with the international community, continues to support Ukraine,” – wrote Austin on his X account.
According to CNN, Lloyd Austin will meet with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and Defense Minister Rustem Umerov to discuss our country's needs for weapons and the support that the U.S. can provide to the Ukrainian armed forces over the next year.
At the same time, The Wall Street Journal notes that Austin's visit is not related to providing new military assistance to Ukraine or granting permission to use long-range missiles against Russia.
