Joe Biden has made a decision
The President of the United States, Joe Biden, has authorized Ukraine to use the long-range missiles provided by the U.S. for strikes deep into Russian territory.
This information was reported by The New York Times, citing details from White House officials.
“In the two months remaining in his term, the president has allowed Ukrainian forces to use a system known as ATACMS for the first time,” the publication states.
It is noted that the weapons will likely be initially used against Russian and North Korean troops to protect Ukrainian forces in the Kursk region, in western Russia.
According to officials, the authorization for Ukrainians to use long-range missiles, known as Army Tactical Missile Systems (ATACMS), was a response to Russia's unexpected decision to deploy North Korean troops into combat.
It is worth mentioning that the target range of ATACMS can reach up to 190 miles (306 km).
“Mr. Biden's decision represents a significant shift in U.S. policy,” emphasized the American publication.
Meanwhile, the agency Reuters reports, citing its own sources, that Ukraine plans to carry out its first long-range attacks in the coming days.
The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, reacted to the information from foreign media:
“Today, there is a lot of talk in the media about us receiving permission for corresponding actions. But strikes are not made with words. Such things are not announced. The missiles will speak for themselves. They certainly will. Glory to Ukraine!”
We remind you that President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky commented on the information published by the New York Times, stating that Ukraine has requested Tomahawk missiles with a range of 2400 kilometers.
