Air Defense Operated Over the Mariinsky Palace
Russian occupiers launched an aerial attack on Kyiv during a meeting between Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer.
Air defense systems were active above the meeting location, reports The Guardian.
“Above the Mariinsky Palace, near the presidential office, a drone (possibly a Russian decoy) was spotted, and its noise could be heard. It is currently unknown if the drone was shot down,” the British publication reported.
Keir Starmer arrived in Kyiv on an unannounced visit on the morning of Thursday, January 16. Shortly afterwards, it was also revealed that the Italian Defense Minister Guido Crosetto was visiting the Ukrainian capital.
At noon on Thursday, an air raid alert was declared in Kyiv due to a Russian drone attack. The sounds of air defense systems could be heard across various districts of the capital. Later, the head of the KMVA, Timur Tkachенко, reported that debris from the incident damaged a car in the Solomianskyi district and the facade of a building in the Dniprovskyi district. Fortunately, there were no casualties.
