Nauseda also urges not to exclude Ukraine's NATO membership
Ukraine could join the European Union in just four years.
This was stated by the President of Lithuania, Gitanas Nauseda, during the International Forum "Support Ukraine," taking place today in Kyiv, as reported by UNIAN.
“I propose a date – January 1, 2030. The opening of the first negotiations can happen within a few weeks. Let's make Ukraine's path to the EU irreversible. Lastly, Ukraine needs real security guarantees. NATO membership is the best, most effective, and long-term option. It must remain on the table to strengthen Ukraine's negotiating position,” Nauseda urged.
He also mentioned that Lithuania, along with other Baltic and Northern European countries, plans not only to provide military equipment to Ukraine but also to conduct training for Ukrainian defenders at the brigade level.
It is worth noting that as part of the summit today, February 24, the President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen, the President of the European Council António Costa, the Prime Minister of Canada Justin Trudeau, and the Presidents of Lithuania and Latvia, as well as the heads of government of Estonia, Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Finland, Iceland, and Spain, arrived in Kyiv.
Leaders from another 24 countries are participating in the summit online.
