"The long-awaited adaptation of Erik Larson's bestseller 'The Devil in the White City' has just received a boost of adrenaline, as sources told Deadline that 20th Century has joined the project, with negotiations underway for Leonardo DiCaprio to act and Martin Scorsese to direct," the publication reports.
DiCaprio and Scorsese will also serve as producers alongside others.
Sources add that there is currently no script for the film, which is based on Larson's classic non-fiction work.
DiCaprio and Scorsese have been developing the project for some time, and sources say they have always felt that this story resonated for many years and continues to resonate. DiCaprio acquired the rights to the book in 2010, and although the project has gone through various stages of development over the years (including a Hulu series adaptation that never came to fruition), insiders say that after meeting with 20th Century executives, all parties were ready to tell this story at the theatrical level.
