As of mid-January 2025, approximately a thousand North Korean soldiers have died in the Kursk region of Russia while participating in the war against Ukraine. This information comes from the BBC, as reported by UNN.

Details

Citing data from Western officials, the BBC noted that by mid-January, the total number of injured, killed, missing, and captured soldiers from the North Korean army amounted to about four thousand, with around a thousand fatalities.

According to BBC security correspondent Frank Gardner, this is a very high figure, considering that approximately 11,000 troops have been sent to assist Russia in the Kursk region.

It is still unclear where the injured North Koreans are receiving treatment, and when and how many can be replaced.

Reminder

According to ISW, the 12,000-strong contingent of North Korean troops in the Kursk region could be completely eliminated by April 2025. Daily losses amount to about 92 soldiers since the beginning of their involvement in combat operations.
