Netflix has announced a price increase for its subscription services in the USA, Canada, Argentina, and Portugal following a surge of nearly 19 million subscribers in the fourth quarter of 2024.

This was reported by BBC, as noted by UNN.

Details

It is reported that the number of Netflix subscribers has exceeded expectations. This is particularly attributed to the release of the second season of "Squid Game," as well as sporting events like the boxing match between influencer-turned-boxer Jake Paul and former heavyweight champion Mike Tyson.

In the USA, prices are set to rise across nearly all plans, including the standard ad-free subscription, which will now cost $17.99 per month compared to the previous $15.49. The ad-supported subscription will increase by one dollar to $7.99.

The last time Netflix raised prices in the USA was in October 2023 when it also adjusted the costs of some plans in the UK.

According to Netflix, the total number of paying subscribers in 2024 has exceeded 300 million. It was expected that from October to December, an additional 9.6 million new subscribers would join, but the actual number significantly surpassed this figure. Furthermore, the company's net profit in October-December doubled to $1.8 billion compared to the same period last year. Revenue increased from $8.8 billion to $10.2 billion.
