From "Terminator" to A-50: the rare military equipment that Ukraine has destroyed from Russia.

According to Oryx, since the beginning of the invasion, Russia has lost over 20,000 pieces of equipment. Among the destroyed assets are unique and extremely costly items, including A-50 aircraft, S-400 systems, and the BMP-T "Terminator" armored vehicles.

According to Jakub Janowski, the administrator of the Dutch open-source intelligence project Oryx focused on defense, investigators have recorded over 20,000 units of destroyed enemy equipment. UNN reports on the rare types of Russian equipment that have been destroyed, damaged, or captured by the Ukrainian Defense Forces.

"Our total documented losses for Russia since the beginning of their invasion of Ukraine in 2022 have exceeded 20,000. What an epic failure for a self-proclaimed military superpower," Janowski stated.

As of January 28, the project reports that Russia has lost 20,068 units of equipment: 15,091 destroyed, 852 damaged, 1,114 left on the battlefield with an unknown status, and 3,011 captured by Ukrainian forces.

The losses of armored vehicles (tanks, infantry fighting vehicles, armored personnel carriers, and MRAPs) amount to over 11,631 units: 8,754 destroyed, 367 damaged, 974 left on the battlefield, and 1,536 captured.

Additionally, more than 437 units of towed artillery, 869 units of self-propelled artillery, and 451 launchers of multiple launch rocket systems have also been lost. At least 298 air defense systems, 134 aircraft, and 151 helicopters have been reported lost as well.

Ships, Boats, and Submarines

The onset of the large-scale invasion was marked by increased Russian activity in the Black Sea. On February 24, 2022, the flagship of the Black Sea Fleet, the missile cruiser "Moskva," approached the Ukrainian garrison on Snake Island and began dictating its demands for the Ukrainian military to surrender, resulting in the cruiser being sent to its well-known fate.

It was at that moment that the iconic phrase was born: "Russian warship, go f**k yourself!" which our military said in response to the demand.

In particular, at that time, the patrol ship "Vasiliy Bykov" conducted artillery preparation for the island before the Russian landing operation.

The Russian landing party managed to land on the shore and capture Ukrainian soldiers who had run out of ammunition.

On April 13, 2022, Ukrainian forces reportedly struck the "Moskva" with two R-360 Neptune missiles from the coastal anti-ship complex RK-360MC "Neptune," causing significant damage. The cruiser was distracted by a Turkish Bayraktar TB2 drone.

The Russian Ministry of Defense could not come to terms with this and claimed that the "Moskva" sank "during the towing of the cruiser to its destination port due to hull damage sustained during a fire from munitions detonation, the ship lost stability. In stormy seas, the ship sank." The cruiser "Moskva" was valued at $750 million.

However, this was already the second ship that Ukraine, which does not have a fleet comparable to Russia's, managed to destroy. On March 24, Ukrainian forces hit the large landing ship "Saratov" with a Tochka-U missile, which had arrived in the occupied Berdyansk on March 21, 2022, as part of a group of ships to unload equipment and troops. The value of the ship is estimated at over $100 million.

Another significant target struck by the Defense Forces was the Russian Black Sea Fleet submarine "Rostov-on-Don." In August 2024, the Defense Forces struck the submarine in temporarily occupied Crimea. The submarine's value is estimated at up to $300 million.

It is not definitively known what was used to strike the submarine, but there is speculation that the attack on the Russian submarine and landing ship in Sevastopol may have been carried out by Franco-British SCALP/Storm Shadow cruise missiles from the Air Forces of Ukraine.

Tracked and Wheeled Heavy Equipment

Previously, UNN reported on the destruction of T-90M tanks, with the project data indicating that 72 were destroyed, 15 damaged, 28 damaged and abandoned, and another 7 captured.

Another much-publicized vehicle is the Russian tank support combat vehicle "Terminator," with open-source data indicating that 8 units have been adopted into service in Russia.

Object 199 "Ramka," known as BMP-T "Terminator," has been in service in Russia since 2011. The "Terminator" is a tank support combat vehicle based on the T-72 tank. Its armament includes two 30-mm 2A42 cannons, with a firing rate of up to 1,000 rounds per minute, a 7.62 mm caliber machine gun, and anti-tank guided missiles of the "Ataka" type 9M120-1 (UR 9M120-1F, 9M120-1F-1) with a laser guidance system (four guided missiles on a launcher in the turret), as well as two AGS-17 grenade launchers (300 rounds in one belt for each) in the track niches. The cost of the vehicle ranges from $1.5 to $5 million.

First reports of the use of this vehicle on the battlefield appeared in May 2022 during the offensive on the Bakhmut - Lysychansk highway. During the fighting, some Russian tanks and BMP-T "Terminator" vehicles advanced to higher ground to shell the highway but were forced to retreat under artillery fire from the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

The first reports of the destruction of BMP-T "Terminator" appeared on February 9, 2023. The then-head of the Luhansk OVA, Serhiy Haidai, reported that the combat vehicle was destroyed in Luhansk region.

Subsequently, it was reported in the Air Assault Forces that the tank was destroyed by the Ukrainian anti-tank complex "Stugna-P."

Two more "Terminators" were damaged in August 2023 by military counterintelligence of the Security Service and in September of the same year by fighters of the 110th Separate Mechanized Brigade.

In December 2024, the operators of the "Charlie" company of the 14th Separate Drone Battalion captured a "Terminator."

"John Connor would definitely envy the capabilities of the Armed Forces of Ukraine," they ironically captioned the video of the "Terminator's" destruction, referencing the eponymous film.

Among the most expensive Russian equipment destroyed by the Defense Forces is the Tor anti-aircraft missile system. In November 2023, a video emerged showing a kamikaze drone destroying "Tor-M1-2U", valued at over $24 million.

The latest upgraded version of the Tor air defense system, supplied to the occupying forces since 2016, is the Tor-M2, with a price ranging from $24 to $27 million. The Tor-M2 is a Russian short-range surface-to-air missile system designed to engage various aerial targets at short distances. Its primary task is to protect military and strategic sites from attacks by aircraft, helicopters, cruise missiles, drones, and precision-guided munitions. The system is equipped with its own radar and electro-optical detection system, allowing it to operate independently.

According to analysts, from February 24, at least 31 units have been destroyed, damaged, or captured. The last known destruction by Ukrainian defenders occurred in December 2024.

At that time, Ukrainian drone forces struck the Russian system using a drone.

Additionally, one such system was captured by "agricultural forces."

Another unusual piece of equipment that the Armed Forces of Ukraine managed to damage is the heavy command and staff reconnaissance vehicle "Ladoga," designed for "doomsday" scenarios.

Open sources indicate that this vehicle is based on the T-80 tank and is intended for autonomous operation in emergency situations characterized by high levels of radiation, chemical, or biological contamination. It is also known that only 4 units of this equipment were built.

In March 2024, a corresponding video appeared showing Ukrainian drones striking the protected vehicle "Ladoga."

However, Oryx also recorded the destruction of this vehicle in June 2024, so it can be assumed that Ukrainian defenders destroyed/damaged two of these vehicles, but it is unclear whether it is the same vehicle.

Another one of Russia's most expensive pieces of equipment is the ground-based self-propelled anti-aircraft missile and gun complex (Z
