In early December, the grand reopening of the Notre-Dame Cathedral in France will take place, following its restoration after the fire that occurred in 2019. This information was reported by Unilad and is noted by UNN.
Details
According to reports, the updated Notre-Dame de Paris will be showcased by the France 2 channel on November 29. To accommodate this broadcast, the channel will adjust its schedule by removing two traditional programs that usually air at that time.
During the televised tour, French President Emmanuel Macron is expected to lead a viewing of the reconstructed Notre-Dame Cathedral.
The program titled "Notre-Dame se révèle" will feature the new design of the roof, choir, and chapel for the first time.
The official reopening of Notre-Dame is scheduled for Saturday, December 7. President Macron will deliver a speech at the ceremony, which will be attended by international officials.
A concert featuring artists from around the globe will also take place on that day. Approximately three thousand guests are expected to attend the opening ceremony.
Notre-Dame will reopen to visitors on December 8.
Additional Information
In April 2019, a devastating fire occurred at the cathedral, which is considered one of the symbols of Paris. The only element that largely escaped the flames was the apse cross.
As reported by Le Parisien, it measures twelve meters in width and weighs around two tons. The iron cross, adorned with golden sculptures, is the work of the renowned architect Viollet-le-Duc.
It is known that during the catastrophic fire in 2019, the cross almost immediately fell to the ground, which helped it sustain minimal damage from the flames.
Reminder
Earlier, UNN reported that the reconstruction of the Notre-Dame Cathedral is expected to be completed by the end of 2024.
