The President of Finland, Alexander Stubb, expressed cautious optimism regarding a potential ceasefire between Ukraine and Russia.

This information was reported by Glavpost, citing Yle.

According to Stubb, a ceasefire could be achieved within the next three to six months.

“Initially, efforts will be made towards a ceasefire, which will take about 3 to 6 months, and then towards peace negotiations,” he noted.

The Finnish leader emphasized that his country's policy is consistently based on supporting the principles of independence, sovereignty, and territorial integrity. He added that in the current situation, it is particularly important to support Ukraine so that it can take a strong position for future negotiations.

After a recent conversation with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, Stubb's optimism grew. He stressed that Finland and other European countries must continue to support Ukraine in its struggle for peace and territorial integrity.

Speaking about the possible role of U.S. President Donald Trump in resolving the conflict, Alexander Stubb pointed out the tough approach that the American leader demonstrates towards Russian President Vladimir Putin.

“Personally, I think that Putin only understands tough rhetoric. And it is in this language that Donald Trump is currently addressing him,” he stated.

Stubb also expressed confidence that discussions about peace in Ukraine will not occur without the participation of the country itself. Furthermore, he highlighted the importance of Europe’s involvement in peace negotiations, as their outcomes will directly impact the future of the security system on the continent.
