The USA has partially lifted restrictions on long-range strikes against Russian territory, allowing the Ukrainian Armed Forces to target military sites only in the Kursk region.

However, analysts from the Institute for the Study of War believe that this move will have a limited impact on the situation at the front.

American officials claim that the authorization will create a "specific and limited" effect. Nevertheless, ISW experts point out that this selective approach leaves Russian troops with a secure rear in many other regions that are out of reach for Ukrainian strikes.

According to experts, Western restrictions on the use of long-range weapons only benefit Russia. If Ukraine is allowed to strike all military targets on Russian territory, it would significantly weaken Moscow's ability to support its forces at the front.

"The USA should allow Ukraine to strike all legitimate military targets in operational and deep rear areas of Russia within the reach of the weapons provided by the USA, not just those located in the Kursk region," emphasized the ISW.

Interestingly, members of the Federation Council of Russia have labeled the authorization for long-range strikes as "a step towards World War III," and Donald Trump Jr., the son of the newly elected US president, has already criticized this decision. Meanwhile, NATO expert Nicholas Williams believes that such changes could significantly impact the course of the war and expedite its conclusion.
