After a transoceanic rescue, a sea turtle, a species endangered, was released into the Gulf of Mexico.
Reported by UNN referencing Associated Press.
The current swept the rare Kemp's ridley turtle from warm waters to the dangerously cold North Sea. The turtle was caught in a fishing boat's net off the coast of the Netherlands, 8047 kilometers away from its native waters. Fortunately, this rare creature was rescued.
It is reported that the cold-weakened sea turtle was taken to the Rotterdam Zoo and rehabilitated. The turtle was named Boyer, in honor of the Dutch boat that discovered it.
Approximately a year after its rescue, following a medical check-up and acclimatization process, the turtle returned home; it was released into the Gulf of Mexico, as reported by the Houston Zoo.
