Denny Villeneuve, the director of "Dune," has expressed that he does not want to direct "Star Wars." He mentioned this during the podcast "The Town," as reported by UNN citing Variety.

During an interview for the podcast "The Town," Denny Villeneuve reminisced about his favorite childhood films, including "Star Wars." The director of "Dune" stated that making such a film is not his dream, as the franchise essentially concluded with "Return of the Jedi" in 1983. However, this does not indicate Denny Villeneuve's lack of interest in collaborating with Lucasfilm.
"The problem is that everything went off the rails in 1983 with 'Return of the Jedi,'" he continued. "It's a long story. I was 15 years old, and my best friend and I wanted to take a taxi, go to Los Angeles, and talk to George Lucas—we were so mad!"
According to the director, after "Return of the Jedi," the "Star Wars" franchise crystallized into its own very dogmatic mythology, resembling an instruction manual with no surprises. This is why he does not dream of directing "Star Wars."
Thanks to "Dune," which has brought the director significant acclaim, many now consider Denny Villeneuve a pioneer in the sci-fi genre. He is currently developing the third "Dune" film, which will be based on Frank Herbert's second novel in the series, "Dune Messiah."
"If I make a third one, which is currently in the writing process, it won't feel like a trilogy," the director stated. "It's strange to say this, but if I go back there, it will do something that feels different and has its own identity."
“Dune: Prophecy” will premiere on HBO in NovemberJuly 19, 2024, 13:19 • 11,340 views
