During an informal European Union summit in Brussels, Scholz emphasized that such an approach is unacceptable, especially in the context of a war that continues to devastate Ukraine's infrastructure and economy. According to him, Trump's proposal can be seen as "very selfish."
The Chancellor stressed that Ukraine's natural resources should be used solely for the benefit of the country's recovery after the end of hostilities.
"Ukraine is experiencing tremendous destruction, and these resources are crucial for financing recovery processes," Scholz stated.
Scholz's criticism reflects the general stance of EU countries, which advocate for unconditional support for Ukraine in its confrontation with Russian aggression. European leaders believe that aid to Kyiv should be provided based on mutual trust and should not come with conditions that threaten the country's independence.
