The National Antarctic Scientific Center showcased photos featuring a penguin family where three chicks are growing, reports UNN.
Details
According to reports, such an occurrence is quite rare. Subantarctic penguins nesting around "Vernadsky" typically lay 2 eggs.
Occasionally, there may be 3 eggs in a clutch, but the survival chance for all the chicks is very low due to the challenge parents face in feeding three offspring.
Biologist Sviatoslav Davidenko from the 29th Antarctic Expedition stated that there is only one such family on Galindez.
Interestingly, there are already around 2,000 subantarctic penguin chicks on the island. The adult population is approximately 4,000. Therefore, there are currently 6,000 penguins around "Vernadsky".
