Canada has made a disheartening announcement regarding Ukrainian refugees.

Approximately 300,000 of our citizens have found refuge in the country.
В Канаде сделали печальное заявление для украинских беженцев.

Not all Ukrainians who arrived in Canada as refugees due to the war will be able to obtain permanent residency in the country. However, as long as the war continues, they will be allowed to stay in Canada.

This was stated by Canada's Immigration Minister Mark Miller, as reported by "Ukrinform." According to him, granting such permission would "send a defeatist message regarding the war in Ukraine."

"Many Ukrainians want to stay. Given the ongoing war in Ukraine, there are certain geostrategic concerns, but I am not prepared to grant full permanent residency rights to all 300,000 Ukrainians,” Miller said.

At the same time, the immigration minister added that some Ukrainians are "becoming Canadians" — they are having children in Canada and forming families with its citizens. Therefore, "humanity should be shown," Miller noted. He stated that Ukrainians wishing to remain in Canada permanently can submit applications just like everyone else.

"As long as the war is ongoing — I will not be sending Ukrainians back. We continue to issue permits for residence and work, so there is nothing to fear,” he concluded.

Earlier, "Telegraf" reported that German Chancellor Olaf Scholz stated that Ukrainian citizens who found themselves in Germany after February 24, 2022, and obtained refugee status should return home or seek employment.
