Президент Молдовы Санду прибыла в Украину и поделилась целями своего визита.

On Saturday, January 25, the President of Moldova, Maia Sandu, arrived in Kyiv. She will hold talks with Ukraine's leader, Volodymyr Zelensky.

"Today in Kyiv for negotiations with President Volodymyr Zelensky. I send my support to Ukraine and its people. Their courage ensures our peace", — wrote Sandu on her social media page X.

The politician outlined the main topics for her discussion with Volodymyr Zelensky. The heads of state will talk about security, energy, infrastructure, trade, and mutual support on the path to the European Union. Moldova remains a reliable neighbor, emphasized Maia Sandu.

It is worth noting that the authorities of Moldova have introduced restrictions on electricity consumption amid an energy crisis caused by the cessation of Russian gas transit through Ukraine since January 1. Russian "Gazprom" halted gas supplies to the Republic of Moldova, particularly for the Moldovan GRES, which is controlled by the separatist enclave of PMR. Since then, MGRES, which previously supplied up to 80% of all electricity to Moldova, has completely stopped selling it to the right bank of the Dniester.

Under these circumstances, Moldova is forced to cover consumption from domestic sources and imports. On December 16, Moldova declared a state of emergency in the energy sector. On December 31, the Ministry of Energy of Moldova announced that in January 2025, the majority of electricity will be imported from Romania, while 30% will be provided by local CHPs.

Starting January 1, 2025, the Moldovan GRES switched to coal-fired electricity generation. On January 3, rolling blackouts began to be implemented in the Transnistrian region.

As previously reported by "Telegraph", Zelensky stated that Ukraine is ready to assist with coal to the so-called "Transnistrian Moldovan Republic" – an unrecognized entity controlled by Russians. The President added that Russia is trying to influence public sentiment in Moldova ahead of the elections through the situation in PMR. Therefore, Ukraine offers assistance to thwart Moscow's plans.
