American "Avenger" in Ukraine: how the AN/TWQ-1 Avenger air defense system aids in protecting the skies (photos, videos).

The use of relatively inexpensive missiles enables the active deployment of air defense systems against drones.

Russian occupiers are not giving Ukrainians any respite, both on the front lines and in the rear. Mass rocket and drone strikes occur every night. In addition to the well-known NASAMS, IRIS-T, and Patriot systems, Ukraine possesses other effective anti-aircraft missile systems to repel aerial attacks.

Among them are the AN/TWQ-1 Avenger air defense systems. Reports indicate that they have been deployed in the Kyiv region to counter drones.

This is not the first evidence of the use of the Avenger missile system (translated as "Avenger") in the Kyiv area. Thanks to the use of widely available and cost-effective missiles (compared to other air defense systems), this missile system can be actively employed within Ukraine's air defense framework.

About AN/TWQ-1 Avenger

The AN/TWQ-1 Avenger is an American self-propelled surface-to-air missile system designed for mobile short-range air defense. It is capable of intercepting cruise missiles, unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), low-flying fixed-wing aircraft, and helicopters. Targets can be engaged at altitudes of up to 3.8 km and ranges of up to 5.5 km.

In its basic configuration, the "Avenger" features a gyro-stabilized turret mounted on a modified Humvee, equipped with two missile launchers. It can fire between 4 to 8 missiles, as well as a 12.7 mm caliber machine gun with a firing rate of 950 to 1100 rounds per minute.

Ukraine received AN/TWQ-1 Avengers as part of military aid from the United States in 2022. They can be utilized both for air defense groups and for protection while moving in convoys.

Previously, Telegraphed reported that Russian invaders had upgraded their air attacks. They have equipped "Shaheds" with thermobaric munitions and changed their flight tactics. In areas where their bombers can reach, they attack with KABs that are almost impossible to intercept.
