The European Union plans to launch two negotiation "clusters" with Ukraine in the first half of 2025. This move is aimed at accelerating the accession process.

This information was reported by Politico, citing representatives from the bloc. It is noted that Ukraine's accession to the EU would be a significant achievement.

"The EU needs to continue developing and accept new members," emphasized the EU's chief diplomat, Kaja Kallas, adding that it is essential to intensify pressure on Russia to expedite the end of the war.

Kiev can already legally begin accession negotiations, but even the first cluster has not yet been initiated. In total, there are 35 chapters in the negotiations, divided into six clusters.

"From a technical standpoint, we could be ready to open two clusters for Ukraine in the first half of the year," said EU Commissioner for Enlargement, Olivér Várhelyi.

However, she noted that further progress for Kiev will still depend on the agreement of all EU members. Currently, not all countries are prepared for Ukraine's accession.

As previously reported, Poland has taken over the EU presidency for six months based on a rotational leadership system. Warsaw has identified energy, defense, and the economy as its main priorities during this period. It is believed that Poland will pay significantly more attention to Ukraine than Hungary did previously.
