The Trump administration has sent Ukraine an updated mineral agreement draft after President Volodymyr Zelensky rejected the initial version of the document. The new version of the agreement includes significant changes and complies with Ukrainian legislation.
Several advisors to the President of Ukraine recommend signing the document to avoid further strain in relations with Trump. This is reported in an article by Axios, citing Ukrainian and American officials.
Officials from both countries and three informed sources have confirmed the existence of the improved agreement. According to them, the new version of the document stands a better chance of being signed.
Last week, U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent personally delivered a proposal for an agreement on rare earth metals to Kyiv. Initially, it was expected that the document would be signed at the Munich Security Conference; however, on February 14, the Ukrainian side proposed a revised version. Ultimately, it was never signed.
The full content of the agreement has not been disclosed, but President Zelensky noted that it did not contain security guarantees for Ukraine. Additionally, it stipulated the transfer of 50% of the resources mentioned in the document.
Recall that earlier "Telegraph" reported that Zelensky made a statement regarding Ukraine's mineral resources. The President explained why they should not reach the Kremlin.
