In the Kupiansk direction, from November 23, 2024, to January 15, 2025, Russian occupation forces managed to capture approximately 8 km² of territory on the right bank of the Oskol River.
This was reported by military-political analyst Alexander Kovalenko from the "Information Resistance" group on his Telegram channel.
According to the expert, the current area under Russian control stretches from Dvurechne to Zakhidne, and it is evident that the occupiers intend to physically control the R-79 highway.
Alexander Kovalenko noted that expanding the area requires more resources from the Russian command, and ensuring reinforcements for the right bank group of occupiers through the Oskol is a very challenging task.
"Yes, it seems that if the Russian Armed Forces can reach the R-79 and advance along the main route to the south, through Kondrashivka to Kupiansk, there will be about 16 km of travel. However, this is practically open, fire-exposed terrain, which, for the infantry formations of the 69th Motorized Rifle Division, lacking adequate technical support, understandably results in increased casualty statistics," stated Alexander Kovalenko.
The military expert added that the occupiers have indeed managed to establish a foothold on the right bank of the Oskol, but it is still premature to say that they will be able to accumulate sufficient resources to "close off" right-bank Kupiansk.
